Get Rid of Stretch Marks
Stretch marks are never pretty—and they can be pretty hard to remove. Millions of women all over the world are burdened with the problem of removing stretch marks from different parts of their body. Stretch marks can be found almost anywhere in the body—from the stomach, arms, legs, hips, thighs, breasts, shoulders, the back, and so on. These unsightly marks on the skin do not pose immediate harm to the person who has them, but they can cause a woman to be ashamed of baring her skin. Most of the women who suffer from stretch marks on their skins often develop it during pregnancy. Often, a woman gains a significant amount of weight during pregnancy. The skin often has to stretch beyond its elastic capability to accommodate the extra padding, and this is where the stretch marks come in.
Once the baby is born, the mother will have to deal with the skin reverting back to the original shape. There is relative scarring on the skin once the woman loses all the baby weight—and these flattened scars are what we call “stretch marks.” However, women who lose weight even without being pregnant are also susceptible to developing stretch marks on their skin. While the majority of women with stretch marks developed it from pregnancy, there are also an alarming number of people who have stretch marks because of weight-related issues.
So how does one begin to remove stretch marks? There are a wide variety of ways to get rid of stretch marks. There are pregnant women who believe that prevention is better than cue and liberally use lotions and moisturizers on their skin to improve elasticity. Dry skin—especially on a pregnant woman—is the perfect condition for stretch marks to develop. If you are pregnant, make sure that you will always keep your skin hydrated with lotions or moisturizers that do not leave a sticky feeling or clog the pores. Massage the moisturizer on your body—concentrating on the areas that are more prone to stretch marks (such as the abdomen, the upper arms, and the buttocks). Lotions and moisturizers with Vitamin E are great in preventing stretch marks, though products with olive oil, aloe vera, and Shea butter are known to be quite effective in this task.
Also, drinking plenty of water and avoiding foods that are laden with fat and salt can help in preventing stretch marks. Water can keep the body hydrated from the inside. Plus, a pregnant woman must be careful with her eating habits—and by careful we do not mean that she should cut back on food entirely—she just needs to make sure that she is eating enough for her and the baby, but never over-eat. Over-eating leads to excessive weight gain, which eventually leads to stretch marks.
However, if you already have stretch marks, there is still a cure. There are plenty of stretch mark creams in the market—in fact, there are hundreds of brands that you can choose from. It is just a matter of finding one that will address one’s needs, lifestyle, budget, and the gravity of the condition. Most of the stretch mark creams out there in the market contain an ingredient called Tretinoin, which is derived from Vitamin A. However, many pregnant women are wary of using Tretinoin products because they might pose a danger to the fetus or the baby that is still nursing from its mother.
If you are not comfortable with stretch mark creams that are laden with potentially harmful chemicals, then you might be pleased to know that there are organic products made with cocoa butter, Shea butter, olive oil, castor oil, aloe vera, and Vitamin E. More and more women are attesting to the effectiveness of such creams, while there are also a good number of women who prefer the more “scientific” approach toward the removal of unsightly lines on the skin.
Experts say that the best way to get rid of stretch marks is to use creams that will stimulate the body’s production of collage and elastin—which are proteins that lie just underneath the dermis layer of the skin. These proteins are responsible for the structural integrity of human skin, and if one strengthens this layer of the skin, then there is a higher chance of visibly reducing the stretch marks.
Applying stretch mark creams religiously on the affected areas will yield positive results over time. One is not required to present a prescription when buying stretch mark creams—you can easily walk into a drug store and ask for a brand that you prefer. However, you should also be aware that not all stretch mark brands are created equal—there are some that work, and there are some that does not work as well as one expects it to be.
